Celebrate Sakura Matsuri This Weekend

Flowers are in the air and in case you missed the Orchid Show or the Macy’s Flower Show, don’t fret! Cherry Blossoms are in full bloom and there’s time to see them!

Sakura Matsuri, New York’s Cherry Blossom Festival, brings out tourists and locals to walk amongst the cloud of blossoms each year during April and May. And if you find yourself in New York City, the Brooklyn Botanical Garden is the place to view these pink flowers in full bloom.

The act of ‘viewing’ blooms, known as hanami in Japanese, can be traced back centuries to the Imperial families who would picnic under the trees every year to take in their beauty. It gradually became an experience for all and now people around the world celebrate hanami, no royalty status needed. The BBG is open to roam around and even has a map that tells you what stage the blossoms are in and where they are located in the gardens.

The main festival is on April 28th and April 29th with each day packed with special events to celebrate the blooms. Plan to dedicate a full day to walking the gardens, enjoying the special performances, and eating food from the Yellow Magnolia Garden Cafe. There are seriously too many events for us to call out with multiple stages and activities you can either watch or participate in.

As one of the hotels near Central Park, hop on the Q Train or grab an Uber and experience Sakura Matsuri!
