Museum Mile

Museum Mile is the stretch of museums along 5th Avenue between 82nd and 105th. Typically exhibits are changed out in January, so February is the perfect month to visit. While you won’t be able to visit them all, here are a few that make our list with notes from our museum insider, Stacy.

Goethe House German Cultural Central – Get “cultured” in 30 mins. Their gallery, only part of the cultural center, will take you less than 30 mins to tour and leave plenty time to check out the library, book center, and fit in another museum visit.

Metropolitan Museum of Art aka The MET – Entrance is a suggested price and they have guided tours throughout the week. Currently on display, Max Beckmann’s exhibit centered around his years in New York City between 1949-1950. On display now until February 20th.

Cooper-Hewitt National Museum of Design – The only “museum dedicated to historic and contemporary design”. Different from your typical “art”. Join their talk about “From Plastics to 3-D Printing: Manufacturing A Consumer Culture”.

Jewish Museum – Food is becoming art and Russ and Daughters is the “exhibit”. Taking up a location at The Jewish Museum, sit-down or take out dishes like a Pastrami Russ sandwich, Pickled Herring, or Challah Bread pudding.

Museum of the City of New York – As the name depicts, learn about the birth and rise of New York City over the years and “what makes New York, New York”.

Stay warm and Happy Viewing!
