New York City Things To Do in September

September has us “burnt out” in more ways than one. Maybe we’re trying to save a little before the holidays hit or recovering from heat stroke. Explore some free events around the city with minimal planning ahead since no tickets are needed!

Yoga in the Park (September 12, 19, 27)

Returning in September due to popular demand, yoga is at Bryant Park! Bring your own yoga mat, towel and water; make sure to register; namaste.

Museum Day (September 17)

Museum Day is a countrywide affair giving free admission (with downloaded free ticket - admits two) to all those who visit participating museums. The day hopes to ‘empower and help advance the hopes’ of individuals especially those of school age.

Japanese Food Festival (September 17 & 18)

The entertainment and socializing are free but you may end up spending some dollars on all of the delicious food. It is a FOOD festival after all. Held in Chelsea, it is two full days of Japanese and Asian-inspired food, music and performance.

Lantern Festival & Workshop (September 24)

The 11th Annual Morningside Lights Festival will be hosted on the Columbia Campus. Light the night with a self-made lantern you can learn to construct at one of their free workshops Sept 17 - 23rd. Returning after a two year hiatus.

Jazz in Times Square (Thursdays)

Every Thursday in September enjoy Jazz amongst the lights of Times Square presented by Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Concert in Central Park (September 28)

Skip Marley comes to NYC for SummerStage to perform a free concert in Central Park. Vendors for food and drink will be on site but you can also bring your own. Take a quick glance at the ‘Plan Your Visit’ page to make sure no items will be left behind or not allowed in.
