New York City Things To Do in April

Cherry Blossoms

April events can not be spoken about without including the Cherry Blossoms! All month long they are in peak bloom signaling Spring’s arrival. Walk through Prospect Park to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens for pink, fuschia, and white lined walkways and numerous benches to sit and reflect about life.

Little Islands

Venture to the West side of Manhattan to the place where Pier 54 once stood. A long history in New York City’s growth including the pier the Titanic survivors arrived through, a safe haven for the LGBTQ community in the ‘70s and ‘80s and then destroyed during Hurricane Sandy. The community didn’t want the Pier’s story to end there, Little Island was born, launching a new experience of public space. A playground for family and kids, outdoor performances at the Amph and pathways with greenery and views to take in making you forget you’re in an urban setting. P.S. No bikes are allowed in the park but there are bike racks located at the entrances.

The Dance Floor

Looking for a place to get your groove on? Hit The Dance Floor at David Rubenstein Atrium on Friday for free music and a dance lesson. Each Friday selects a different type of music and teaches you dance moves to carry through the night’s performance. Make sure you bring a friend!

Clandestine Bars

Manhattan has no shortage of speakeasies and unique themed bars to discover. If you find yourself in Midtown West, slip into Chez Zou on the fourth floor of Manhattan West Plaza. To gain access, pass through the Mediterranean restaurant, Zou Zou’s (maybe have dinner here first?), to the elevator just past the host stand. On the East side? Pawn some items off for brunch (no real pawning needed) and gain entrance from the pawn shop to Beauty and Essex and feel like you stepped into someone’s 5th Avenue parlor: grand chandeliers, spiral staircases, and luxury sofas and seating .

Brooklyn Marathon (April 24)

Miss the New York Marathon last October? Explore Brooklyn through this iconic route starting in North Brooklyn, run along the waterfront and end up in Prospect Park. Maybe it’s a little late to start training for 26.2? No FOMO here. There is also a half marathon route (13.1) and a 5K/10K run on April 16th through Prospect Park.
