Rockefeller Center isn’t only for the winter holidays anymore. The ice skating rink has transformed into a disco-vibing roller rink sponsored by Flipper’s and sporting the tagline “Less scroll, more roll!” Now through October, the party keeps going with concerts, DJ sets, themed nights, and food. Tickets are required to book a skating time slot online which does not include skate rentals. 

Governer’s Island

As of September 2021, Governor’s Island is open year round and spring is the perfect time for day excursions in the fresh air. Walk through the Open Orchard artwork of 102 fruit trees indigenious to New York City over its history, step into the Jazz era for the annual Jazz Age Lawn party or spend a day at QC NY, a spa oasis of lush lawns, saunas, views of Manhattan and a curated massage treatment. Spanning 172-acres, there is something for everyone whether family, friends, solo or date night.

Weekly Walks in Central Park

Wednesdays are made for (virtual) walks through the park. Discover a new part of Central Park every week with Weekly Walks. Sign up online for virtual tours and talks about Central Park. In May, learn about East Meadow Tree-Scape, the Conservatory Garden makeover, Cherry Blossoms (yep, they’re still in bloom in May!), and Shakespeare Garden. Now you have the lay of the land…er park to visit IRL on the perfect sunny day.

Fried Chicken Picnic

The Upper West Side welcomes a new/old favorite to the area: Charles Pan Fried Chicken. Chef Charles started out in Harlem, first a table on the sidewalk, moving to a food truck and then a brick and mortar. Sadly, COVID-19 shut down the Harlem location but now it is back in a new location serving up their special skillet crisp’d fried chicken and all the southern sides. Make sure to order online (takeout only) to avoid waiting but still expect to see a line of return customers. The perfect picnic for a Central Park walk.
