New York City Things To Do in April

Take a deep breath and exhale into this month. Nature is welcoming us with blooms wide open and, fingers crossed, the weather meets us halfway.

It’s not April in New York City until the cherry blossoms are blooming. Don’t worry about figuring out the optimal time to go or where. Central Park and Brooklyn Botanical Gardens (BBG) have an easy online map and key kept up to date with what stage their trees are in around the park. Looks like the majority of BBG’s trees are in pre-bloom so you have some time to celebrate hanami, “viewing flower”.

Do something for the environment. Earth Day is April 22nd and a perfect time to rent a bike and tour the city or cruise through Central Park. Plan ahead and take advantage of 2 complimentary bike rentals at Fancy Apple when you book a stay at Park Central Hotel, only 3 blocks away from the park. Don’t forget to wear a helmet! For a deeper dive and more activism, The Climate Museum pop-up will educate, rouse discussion and provide action to care for our planet.

Want to know the (historical) tea about New York City’s elite? Hear stories of scandal, murder, pioneering and see inside the homes of these tales’ main characters on the Gilded Age Tour. A time of opulence, money, and grandeur in decor and lifestyle prominently visible in the mansions built during this time. Walk along Fifth Avenue to explore architecture in homes and public buildings like The Metropolitan Museum. You may forget what century you’re in.

Bizz, buzz and chirping is SO April. You may be in the city but there’s still nature for a break from the hustle and bustle. Get to know the birds and bees living in Midtown. Meet up for morning and night bird watching at Bryant Park (limited pairs of binoculars are available). Or head to the park’s very own apiary, where beehives of honey bees are kept, for a beekeeping class.

Take the climb for an open air view (literally)leaning over the city. “City Climb” straps you in for an ascent and descent up a skyscraper to the top for a view like no other. Lean out over the edge for a thrill of a lifetime and epic sights of the city below. Our hearts are racing and palms sweaty just from writing this. Climb at your own risk!

High up or feet solidly planted on the ground, step outside.
