Black History Month (All month)
NYC does not lack in events, talks, and spaces celebrating Black History month. Support local makers at Black owned businesses at the Harlem Fine Arts Show. The Met will be highlighting Black artists in their new exhibit: Harlem Renaissance. And bring comedy to history at Drunk Black History while guests try to retell history after a few too many libations. These are only a highlight of what’s going on all month long across the boroughs.
Fashion Week (February 9 - 13)
Ascending to the west side of Manhattan will be the iconic, the up and coming, and best in fashion. Unless you’re one of the luck to have an invite to the runway shows, most of us will be getting our highlights via social. Several of the shows will also be streamed. Gather your fashionista friends and throw a viewing party with awards for best dressed. Craving for in-person fashion? Take a chance and hang out by the headquarters, RXR Starrett-Lehigh Building for sightings of fashion icons and trends.
Super Bowl (Feb 11)
Start stocking up on chips, beer, and wings for Super Bowl 58 between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs in Las Vegas. The game has something for everyone: football, hilarious commercials and halftime entertainment for the music lovers (Usher!). A house party is a no brainer but if a big screen is something you seek, there are plenty of bars throwing epic Super Bowl Viewing parties. Extend the Super Bowl extravaganza and visit ‘Beyond the Big Game’ exhibit at The Paley Center for Media. See paraphernalia over the decades, every bowl ring, uniforms, replays of epic games and plays. The works.
National Pizza Day (February 9)
Like there needed to be a reason to eat pizza in NYC. A whole day honoring the cuisine that can be eaten morning, noon, and night. And spawn a debate with friends: which one is the best? To be clear, NYC style pizza is large, hand tossed, thin crust pizza. Crispy crust with pliable bottom to allow ease of folding slice in half for consumption (thank you wikipedia). A few notable places to visit on this day: Patsy Pizza (East Harlem), John’s of Bleeker Street (Greenwich), Juliana’s (Brooklyn), and Joe’s Pizza (Midtown).
Chinese New Year (February 10 - 25)
It’s the year of the Wood Dragon promising growth, success, and good energy ahead. The holiday starts with the parade on February 10th and ends with the Lantern Festival February 24th. The celebration lasts 16 days, each day tied to a significant purpose and celebration. Join the Chinatown parade February 25th for a full day of culture and fun to ring in the year of the Dragon.
