Part I Summer Park Series: Best Places to Picnic

What are the makings for a perfect picnic day? Checkered blanket, sunshine, a wicker basket filled with goodies to nosh on and of course location, location, location! We’re doing a 3 part series on Parks in the Summer. Part 1: Best Places for a Picnic.

  1. The obvious choice is Central Park with its’ 5 minute walk from Park Central Hotel and more specifically, Sheep Meadow. With one of the biggest lawns in the Park, you’re sure to find a place to throw your blanket down.

  2. Maybe you’re up for venturing around Central Park? Grab a bike from our partner, Fancy Apple - located in the retail space of our building, and pedal north to explore other lawn and find a special nook to stake claim to.

  3. Longer days + warmer weather = night picnics. Head to Riverside Park, on the Upper West Side, for the ultimate sunset picnic. Watch the sun settle into the horizon over the Jersey skyline and relax into the night.

  4. Speaking of night time...a movie picnic is a quintessential New York City experience. Melt into the darkness with the glow of a movie in Bryant Park and forget your urban surroundings for a couple of hours.

  5. Escape the city to Roosevelt Island to the East of Manhattan. Hop on the subway (1 block from Park Central) or take the tram and head south to Franklin Roosevelt Park where the Manhattan skyline can be your view in the distance.

Near or far, day or night, New York City knows how to picnic with purpose. Did you need another reason to stay in affordable accommodations in New York City, Park Central Hotel? Pop into Central Market (located in Park Central’s lobby), grab a selection of ready-to-go items from wraps, sandwiches, chips, and salads, and head to your picnic spot of choice.
